What kind of patients appreciate premium eyewear like Tom Ford?

I think patients that want a good quality product, that want to put their money into something that’s going to last. That’s a lot of what we see. I do see a lot of patients that have their glasses for a few years and they want something that stands up to that and to everyday usage.

What are patients struggling with in their current frames when they walk in?

I see people having issues with sizing and the styles, because styles change so often. I do have a lot of people that come in and they just want that classic look, but then we have these giant glasses on display.

Once they try them on and we talk through it, they come around to it’s more about what looks good on their face and that’s where I come in to help them find that good fit.

What do you see from your customers before they find the right pair of glasses?

I have people that will just come in and be like “I have no idea” or “I can’t have too many options.” They feel overwhelmed, especially if they walk into our office and see a lot of stuff on display.

That’s where I come in. I ask them a couple of questions and I try to narrow it down really quickly because I know what it’s like to be overwhelmed by choices.

My hope is that I can narrow it down as quickly as possible just based on their face shape, size, what they’ve previously been wearing, and what they like. And then once they choose one or two, then I’ll go and pick more for them to help ease that overwhelmed feeling.

What are patients most concerned about when buying luxury eyewear?

A lot of them are worried about the price because it can be quite expensive. But these are products that will have wonderful warranties and will hold up to the test of time because of the quality. And that’s not just in the lenses; that’s also with their frames.

What kinds of issues impact their frame decisions?

As far as their prescription goes, we can really fit just about anything in there thanks to the technology that has been developed for new lenses over the years.

There’s lots of options to help people with higher prescriptions get thinner lenses. We have digitally surfaced progressive lenses now that help with that bulkiness of some of those higher prescriptions, to really bring that down and make it look more normal.

So the lenses really aren’t the biggest factor when I’m fitting somebody for that frame. When we look at those frames, what I’m looking at is their face shape. I’m looking at the size of their head. We don’t want to go too big, we don’t wanna go too small because we don’t want things falling off of our face.

I really try to take their face shape into consideration. So if they have more of a square face, I’m gonna go with more of a round frame, and if they have more of a round face, we’re gonna go more square shape.

But also it’s gonna be a personal preference because some people, they just want
what looks really cool on ’em because they want that stylish look.

So it really depends, but most of the time we are going based off their face shape, the sizing, and what’s gonna feel most comfortable to them.

In your professional experience, what sets Tom Ford frames apart from other designer brands?

They are very unique. They have lots of different shapes and they are a good thicker quality. You can feel the difference when you pick up a Tom Ford frame versus one of the less expensive frames. You can definitely feel that difference.

And what’s fun about them is each of them is marked with a Tom Ford logo on the eye piece that goes into the earpiece. It’s like a little t that goes from the front down the earpiece.

They have lots of cool, innovative styles that a lot of other brands don’t have that makes them more fun. Especially for people who want to be more stylish and up to date on the trends that are going on.

Have any of your patients had a transformative experience with Tom Ford frames?

I have seen a couple of our patients in them and they look so good and so natural. They just fit, but yet they’re fun and a little funky, you know?

When someone wears a pair of glasses that fits well and it looks fun, you can see it in them that they feel good. And the people that I’ve seen wearing the Tom Fords, they just look happy because they know that they’re wearing something
that is quality. It looks good on them and it’s fun.

Don’t be intimidated by some of these bigger frames that pop out first when you look at that board. There is something for everyone. It doesn’t even have to be your everyday glasses.
